NEW TO REBLOOMING IRIS???
Read on!, Let us tell you about these
wonderful iris. In the
past most iris bloomed just once in the spring. Now many
hybridizers are working on iris
that bloom multiple times through out the year. Most of the
rebloomers for us bloom
normally in the spring and then again in the summer or fall. Some
even bloom three times
for us. The "everbloomers" tend to bloom constantly, until frost,
if the growing conditions
suit them. These iris keep growing and blooming because they do
not go into a summer
dormancy like the once blooming iris. Therefore, they like to have
regular watering and
fertilizer. To help you know if an iris is likely to rebloom for
you in your garden, we have
coded them in the margin of the catalog. ** means that rebloom
is very dependable here
every year. * means that we get occasional rebloom, it may skip
some years here or that
it is new to our garden and we have not had sufficient time to test
it out. Many iris will
rebloom in warm winter climates but not here in Virginia in our
garden. We have tried to
make note of this for you--should you be fortunate enough to live
in such a climate. Our
garden here is Zone 6B the warm side of Zone 6 (0 to -10 degrees).
Personally, we don't
consider this very warm. If you are new to reblooming iris or
live in the same growing Zone
or colder we suggest you select the ** iris to help insure rebloom
in your garden.
We do enjoy receiving your cards, notes and e-mails letting us know
how thrilled you are when the rebloomers rebloom for you in your garden.
We share in your joy. Your feed back also lets us know what is blooming where so
we know what to recommend to others gardening in the same zone as you.
